At L.M. Kohn, we pride ourselves on our reputation and ethics. We believe that if you can connect with likeminded advisors who are tired of working for the larger investment firms, with their excessive fees and rules about which financial products advisors can recommend to their clients, and give them the freedom to work as they see fit, that this will bring success. As such, our advisor base has grown organically for more than 30 years through referrals and word-of-mouth. But occasionally, we also connect with other firms who share our culture and values, and are extended the opportunity to join forces. This was exactly the case with our recent acquisition of Baker and Company.
Baker and Company is a family-owned, Ohio-based investment firm providing financial planning, investments and advisory services to individuals, trusts, estates, charitable organizations, retirement accounts and corporations. The company was founded in 1971 by current CFO Melissa Henahan’s father. And today, her own children are among her trusted staff.
We were drawn to Baker and Company because of the excellent reputation the company has maintained for over 50 years, as well as the retention and confidence of its advisors. Likewise, Baker and Company will join as a new brand of L.M. Kohn, maintaining the company name and its well-deserved brand equity. Baker and Company advisors will have the full support of L.M. Kohn, and service to advisors’ clients will remain unaffected.
“L.M. Kohn attracted us because they have such a good reputation in the industry, and that’s important to us,” said Melissa Henahan. “I was impressed by their business model and its focus on helping independents, their utilization of modern technology, and their emphasis on helping advisors maintain compliance. I know my clients are going to be in good hands.”
This Ohio-based acquisition expands the L.M. Kohn geographical footprint in the region. While it is not indicative of a change in our strategy from the organic growth-focused model that has brought us success since our founding, we will continue to be open to future acquisitions such as this; of smaller firms with excellent reputations wishing to be acquired but hesitant to sell to the larger wirehouses.
We welcome the Baker and Company team to our ranks, and look forward to many years of future success working alongside each other!
